Welcome to the Ministry Development Home Page

The Department of Ministry Development exists to support public ministry in the parishes of the Diocese of Winchester.

We work with parishes to encourage appropriate and flexible patterns of ministry for their particular situation. In this work parishes are encouraged to identify the resources they already have and to consider their future needs. As an important part of this we seek to encourage a sense of vocation among all members of the church.

Nearly all of our work is in direct response to requirements from General and Diocesan Synods to implement policies in the following areas:

  • the preliminary selection and subsequent initial training of candidates for ordained ministry

  • the provision of Continuing Ministerial Education for those in the first four years of ordained Ministry

  • the provision of a general programme for clergy and Reader Continuing Ministerial Education

  • a process of Ministerial Review for all ordained minister

  • selection and training for those called to Reader ministry

  • training support for those who take up the office of Churchwarden

In addition we provide resources for parishes to train people in various lay ministries such as Lay Pastor or Parish Visitor, or those involved in the ministry of welcome. This is an expanding area of our work.

Members of the Department also work with parishes on training programmes and events that are specifically designed to meet local needs and situations.
